Kommentar/Beschreibung

This lecture course (which should be attended together with the “Concepts-and-Interpretations” course) is designed for second-semester BA students who prepare for the Modulabschlussprüfung (B1). It intends to offer a historical survey of literatures and cultures in the English-speaking world and to provide an introduction to interpreting texts from a historical point of view. Texts to be discussed will cover the time from the 16th century to the present, as well as Britain, Ireland, the U. S., India, Canada and Australia.
In preparation of the Modulabschlussprüfung (envisaged for 15 July 2021), please read:
Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter (any edition)
Virginia Woolf, Mrs Dalloway (any edition)
Alice Munro, Selected Stories (ISBN 978-0099541097)
You may wish to consult the internet for reasonably-priced secondhand copies (e.g. bookfinder.com)
